What's wrong with 60 fps? ;)
Try disabling vsync. I'm not sure if that's an improvement over 60 fps, though.
With vsync off there should be no limit to the framerate, at least I don't think so. My machine could only manage about 45 fps (although I had graphics turned up) so I'm not sure. I got super-high framerates (~250 fps) at the main menu and intro video though. You can disable vsync in the options menu on the game launcher, but you should also make sure that it's not being forced in your graphics card settings.

Running faster than 60 fps will likely cause tearing on your monitor, depending on your monitor's refresh rate. For example, if your monitor has a refresh rate of 60 Hz, but you're running at 80 fps, you will likely see tearing on the screen because a new frame is being sent to your monitor before it's finished displaying the old one. This effect can be really distracting, so most players prefer to use vysnc. The downside of vysnc is that if you drop below 60 fps, it will lock it to 30 fps. This was happening to me most of the game and I still found it quite playable, however.

EDIT: I had incorrectly stated that a CRT monitor would not have tearing, which is false. I removed this statement.

Waltorious: CRT's will not have this problem.
CRT's suffer from screen tearing also.

Oops, you're right, sorry!

Huh, didn't I say all that already, in not so many words...? ;)

Okay, I also have more words: especially ATI cards seem to tear a lot (even with vsync)... at least the ones I had did, which was why I never got one of those again.

I didn't mean to repeat it so much as give more detail on how to turn it off, in case the OP needed it. Also, some games have FPS limits even with vsync off, so I was stressing that in this case turning vsync off should allow faster framerates. So if the OP thought that vsync was off but they still seemed locked at 60 FPS, then that would be weird behavior.

er..with Vsync I have never observed tearing..ever. (ATI 4850, 5850 and current in use AMD 6950).

Vsync completely eliminates tearing, if it doesn't then its not properly implemented in that game.

From past year or so I never used Vsync from inside the game, because some of them don't have an option to enable Triple Buffering. So I just use D3Doverrider to force Vsync + Triple Buffer to force it in every game I play (except a rare few FPS games).

Thanks guys.

Vsync is off I never use it as it seriously limits frame rate. 60 FPS is fine but I find going higher generally makes me feel better (I'm a migraine sufferer so maybe that alters my perception). I would also like to know just how well my PC copes with a game so limiting fps doesn't tell me that.

It could be that my PC is only capable of 60fps but I would expect it to vary a bit around 60 rather than stay at 60.
Witcher 2 isn't capped at 60 FPS, vsync in the drivers options or in the RED configurator must have forced enabled.

That is if you aren't using FPS capping 3rd party applications like DXtory or SSAA tool or FPS limiter and rarely your PC's ability to render frames at that speed (oddly it shouldn't be fixed at 60 FPS).

If you don't have one of those 120Hz 3D monitors, your display will not really be able to display more than 60 FPS. Maybe the feeling that it was better, is a bit of a placebo effect, when you see those big numbers in the corner. ;)
In the main menu, the number goes up over a thousand, but it doesn't feel any different to me.

The best way to see your maximum performance is to bring everything disabled and on lowest, except AA on, and 800X600 resolution. From this point, I would add demanding features piece by piece, and see how is it. Shadows, blurry effects and sight distance demand a lot fps.
My game on very low goes with 35-40 fps.
