Steams Paul.dll(if it exists) won't generate any errors or positive hits in AntiVirus..nor does GOG versions(I haven't checked because I never got error with Paul.dll)

But if you are using cracked(used in Piracy) Paul.dll, then you will get a positive hit in AntiVirus. Warning would be "TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen2" <- related to using SKirdow's game crack.

Alright, so I shouldn't worry about this "Paul.dll" file then basically? That is pretty much what I wanted to know.
The thing is, I don't know if it a steam related thing or not. I have seen it only mentioned once which is what I posted. That is why I asked.

My download is 2/3 of the way complete. My AV has been turned off.

I will report back to see if anything changed. I will of course use the standard run as admin and stuff like that too if it doesn't work right away.

Ah, it should be mentioned that different AV products treat files differently, so one AV might see it as a threat while another doesn't. Norton, for example, will delete game files. That's a near-inevitability. We really should make a list of AV products that cause problems, someday :)

Maybe in the upcoming forum.
Alright guys, I seem to have fixed it.

It was a combination of running as admin(just once) for steam and the launcher.

As well as making the user folder manually, as for some reason it wasn't generated?

edit: spoke to soon. The launcher appears, and I changed settings. Now it just hangs on the wolf head though. Game isn't launching?

edit2: Forgot about the actual witcher exe file -_-. Ran that as admin once, it works.

So I guess the issue here was the user files? And maybe AV?

Since you got the game working, time to check if it was your Anti Virus doing the harm..

1. Do not enable AntiVirus until you check the following steps.
2. Close all Steam apps
3. Open up your AntiVirus and check previous reports or LOG's (see if either Witcher2.exe or Paul.dll file was detected and deleted from previous installation)
4. Also check the AntiVirus's Quarantine section (to see if either Witcher2.exe or Paul.dll file was moved here from previous installation)
5. Close Antivirus
6. Check if there is a Witcher2.exe and Paul.dll in the Steam's game folder (if there is..then copy the files to some other location by copying it into a ZIP file, then copy the ZIP file into a winRAR file and rename the .RAR file to something like .ZZZ file)
7. Enable AntiVirus guard
8. Play the game (same method as you got it working currently)

If all is well, then you probably didn't try the steps mentioned previously...or you did something like verify the integrity and deleted some of the files via steam client itself (thou don't do it again).
Works now. Maybe it was an issue with the installation scripts and the av?

I have my av running now, and the game runs now as well. Weird.

Also, you only need to run each file as administrator once as well, after that it works normally.
