1. Is it always this way - I'm fighting Letho - I had him down to about half, I think I was down to 1/8 - a gone-ner. Suddenly I'm out of the fight, my sword is in my inventory and I'm told Letho ran off to get Triss! Waa? Is this typical?
2. Also, I'm tired of trying to find Cedric, all the blood spots end up leading to other bodies. Any hints there?

1) Not just typical, but always. If you 'win', reducing his health bar to that level, the fight ends that way; if you lose, you die the true death.

2) Cat potion. Also, IIRC he tends to be on the far side of a tree near the lake.

He's near the waterfall. Basically, if you face away from the waterfall, take the left path and you should find him.
