Ok the combat was fine up until this point but now i think it's just getting a bit ridiculous.

He uses the same signs as you but his are significantly better, I mean when you attack him you get stunned, but the opposite doesnt happen when he does you.

He also just spins circles and you take 3/4 of your health in damage just for being anywhere near him, when clearly his sword misses you, but you still take damage.

It's such a shame, Witcher 1 released with so many bugs, this is such an amazing game it's truly a shame to see little glitches and unpolished aspects like this that make the gameplay brutal.
I'm pretty sure there's nothing unpolished or buggy about this fight. *shrug*

You could always try it on an easier setting if you're finding it too difficult.
This fight was ridiculously hard for me as well. I found that fighting him with your sword was suicide, your best bet is to beat him by running around in circles until his Quen Sign goes down then throw Grapeshot bombs at him. Make sure you have 2/2 points in Alchemist for the extra bomb damage.

I'm guessing you'll see him more than once, but if you're talking about the elven bathhouse fight I had success by simply jumping on him early to prevent him from casting any signs and I used mainly strong attacks. If you block too early he'll push you away with the Aard sign though, so don't hit E to block his sword attack until you see him begin to wind up.

Yes, it (and most of the fights in the game, for that matter) is a tough fight but you only need to get him down to around half health before the cutscene happens.
Hi

This fight gave me a lot of trouble, but i found the "easy" way of doign it. Wait until his protective buble wears of and quickly move right behind him and drop yrden at his feet, the just start hackig away and drop yrden again... repeat. Import thing is to keep rolling around him because If you stay close to him he wont activate the protective sign (cant remember the name) and you can "hang around" for the vigor to recharge (i had 3 bars of vigor). This is how i defeated him on normal.

I beat the fight, I'm just pointing out that the combat system is kind of foolish. It takes like 2 attacks for you to die but around 100 to win. Even skinny guys with shovels take 10 hits to die and can kill you in 2-3, it just doesn't make sense to me.

As for the bug I am constantly getting hit by swings that miss me, it seems if you're anywhere near the person swinging, you get hit, it could be by the follow through of their attack, it will hit you in the back for 150 damage.

I really loved the combat system up until around the bath house fight, now I much, much, much prefer the one from the first game.

The way i did the fight was , drink a swallow potion and the fire/poison resist one, then i went close to him all the time block and counterattack repeat , this way is easier for me because he never casted those crazy spells, granted i ended with 2% of HP lol :)

That fight is supposed to be very hard, you aren't even on the second chapter yet and you are meeting your nemesis without any of your skills built up. The fight is supposed to come down to the wire. Using yrden and quen is key here, unless you have better bombs to stop him already
I'm gonna be honest guys. I totally bugged him on a rock. If you corner him enough on the right side of the room, you can bug him to where he can't hit you and he basically can't block you either. Totally pwned.
I think a lot of the fights seem harder than they end up being because the enemy health bar neveee correlates to when the fight actually finishes. You seem to knock off a quarter of the bar then jump into a qte or cutscene and the fight is over :)

That said, I finished this fight by running around in circles and dropping like 30 traps lol
When in doubt (or failing a dozen times in a row with no clear idea of what to try next), just switch to easy difficulty and spam sword attacks - he won't be able to block them once you've started hitting him.

Kinda silly that the difficulty curve of this fight goes from omgwtfbbq at "normal" to pushover chump at "easy".

(semi-spoiler: hope you didn't like your previously-equipped steel sword much!)
I had trouble but then figured it out. I used the force push whenever able. Followed it up with hits. He was never able to get Quen off since I was always able to cast the force push faster. It made the fight INCREDIBLY easier.

Force Push > Hit > Repeat

Throwing Knives= Letho Easy mode.

That single point I put in them that I thought was wasted finally redeemed itself. I had ten or so, and you can throw them faster than other types of bombs, and each one staggers him slightly. I killed him in under a minute on normal difficulty, after dying repeatedly with all other strategies. Obviously, you have to wait for his shield to drop.

It's cheesy, yes. But the way I figure it, this is the one skill that can set you apart from Letho, as he can do everything else you can do, and does it much better. Going toe to toe with him in any other fashion is simply going to be very challenging.

My tactic was to use quen on myself, run around until his runs out and attack with strong right click attacks only, he will hit me but his damage gets blocked by my quen and leaves him open for an attack.

Other than that I let him do his fighting routine and the moment he stops hes open again and I hit him with strong hits again from side or from the back.

Took a while and quite a few deaths to figure him out but eventually he seemed predictable on his ingi/aard and his melee wasnt that with quen on.

I didn't use any potions, bombs or any other sign except for quen.

Yeah I had a lot of troubles. Use the aaard sign at all times. It knocks him off his feet and you can keep hitting him over and over again. just roll around and hope he doesn't cast his quen sign if you need vigor back. That's the best strategy I tried.
