So, I crossed the mist and now have to go find Triss in the Kedweni camp and I have 2 options. Go through some cave or go through a secret passage in the brothel.
I want to go through the secret passage, I asked madame carole about it and successfully bribed her (500 orens).
She gave me the key to the old tower door but when I try to open it, it still says "key required". What's the deal here?

I can't say for certain since I opted to sneak through the camp, but I do know that there's a secret trapdoor that you find out about in a Roche playthrough inside the tent to the right. Maybe that opens up and the key opens a door inside the underground area?

Can't be sure that it'll be open, but thought mentioning it wouldn't hurt.

Ok, I went back to that trapdoor in the tent and it was now open. it still doesn't make any sense, she gave me the key for the old tower and I didn't have to sue ANY key to open the trapdoor?!

In the Roche playthrough, the door that (I'm assuming) leads to the camp from the underground passage remained locked. It's probably the key for that door, and she just wasn't very specific. Glad that worked for you, though :)

You use the key to open a door that leads into the secret tunnels. The trapdoor opens on it's own and you only open the door the staircase leads to if you are on roache's side and finish your business in that room.

I'm having this issue too. Unfortunately, I didn't understand the quick save mechanic, and I saved after I bought the key, not realizing it deleted my earlier quick save - and discovered the key didn't work.

Would have to replay a ton since my last autosave... anyone know what the deal is with this or of a fix?

go through the trap door, find the key, open the door that leads into the cave.
