I just completed the Prologe, and so far i like the game alot :)

I hope this game has many many hours of play in store for me, hence my question:
Can you roam the world free at some point? Like Fallout, Oblivion etc?

I hope so!

As much as I love the game - there is no free-roaming such as in Oblivion or Fallout.

You're limited to exploring the chapter you're in (and even such may have possible quest limitations )

Yes. For a non open-world game The Witcher 2 offers quite much areas to explore - limited to the chapter you're currently in though.

I think it combines all the benefits of story-driven straight-forward singleplayer rpgs with a little bit of open world feeling. Plus all the areas are hand-made and you can see that. :)

I feel a bit sad that there is not possible to freeroam, but it is ok i guess, the story seems very good, and with all the places "hand made" like Godzilla said, it quite awesome anyways :) Tho i feel the lack of freeroaming might make the character customisation a bit dull and non-unique?

I believe the Gerald will be one of the most iconic fictional character in gaming history. His world is filled with evens, and he is in the middle of all of them. His decisions shapes nations. His actions spans different aspects of life, politics, ethics, friendship, love.

I just finished the game. Truely there are 16 outcomes. You arrived with different people in the end, have different dialogue. If there is Witcher 3, all of those outcomes, in my eyes will give the developers a real challenge to transfer all those outcomes into the next sequence.

This game is not about roaming.

This game is definitely not finished in 1 playthrough. It is one of a few adventures game I know I can enjoy for a whole year.

And my god, people, THE GRAPHICS!

Like TW1, the areas are fairly large and do not feel limiting. you are given complete freedom to explore in each one. So in a way, I do consider it free-roaming, just not on the scale of something like Oblivion. But certainly more freedom than you find in Bioware's games.

Well, free-roaming in the sense that you are able to roam the entire game map, no.
However, as you move from the prologue to the next chapters, you are able to free-roam within the map for that chapter. The prologue is basically a dungeon crawl for the purpose of showing you the mechanics of the game.

As i just finished the prologue, im looking forward to the "larger" maps to do some exploring :)

Larger maps... yes
Free roaming... within reason.
Sand box free roaming (like in Oblivion)... no.
