-Geralt can attack more than one target during normal combat

I've just started a new game, and this isn't working. Can anyone else confirm that this is true, or will I need to dump talent points into getting Whirl?
I find that it does work.

I don't have any numbers, but it is only minimal damage without Whirl. More like an interrupt or stagger. One thing that makes it obvious, though, is the occasional critical effect on a target other than Geralt's primary. I saw this in the prologue. I have experienced it plenty in Act 1 with a magic build, no Whirl at all.
At first glace, it seems other enemies do get hit, but don't really suffer any damage, just mere effect of being hit (like getting knocked back a few steps or something similar).

Which is still useful as sort of crowd control.
Ah, I can see it now, but it rarely happens. Good, that's a weight off my mind.

Ok, so... err.... How about that local sports team? Really.... umm, good...?
