I started the troll trouble quest, spoke to the troll he attacked me for a while then said don't hit me anymore, surrendured and I agree'd to find out about his female freind, then I left for a while and while doing other quest I noticed the troll quest said to get my reward and that I'd killed the troll D:

I went to where the troll usaully is but he's not there and there's no drops either wtf....did the troll drop anything good and would it still be around? also is there some save editor I can use to reset that quest? that would be the more preferable option...
I don't know... maybe the game spawned enemies to close to him and they killed him? That would suck. :p Enemies of different types will attack each other... That's the only explanation I could think of. :\ Unless someone in your household played using your save file.
OR.

Maybe you have effects on your attacks. And even though u stopped fighting him the effects remained until he died ? like he might of been on fire ? or poisoned ? or maybe he stood on a trap u left behind ? couldve been a number of things.

or u couldve just read the quest wrong

I think he may have stepped on a trap I left behind but it shouldn't have killed him unless bleed last until a creature dies?
maybe the Russian volka was too strong for him lol

Russia doesn't exist in the witcher universe, so technically its not russian vodka.

Maybe the troll made his own vodka and distilled it too fast. So he ended up drinking terrible and deadly Rushin' vodka.
lol isnt vodka a russian creation ? so even though the universe is make believe there must be atleast 1 russian there to make it :P..

unless it was just a magic coincidence they decided to choose vodka out of a million billion possibilities :P
Well there is moonshiners hut in the forest, plus goat stuffed with sulfur

witcher 2 is set in post apocalyptic earth. ;)
Wow as i played the witcher 1 i really tried to remove or help as many afflicted monsters as i could, granted drowners and such do not reason but i always let everything have first whack which if it did i killed it. So taking the same approach as i did in TW1 bringing it foward into TW2 i can not tell you how many guys and monsters got a free shot, of course once taken that was all she wrote. So i ran into the trolls as i was beating a hasty retreat from Henslet's camp heading into act 2 and was quite happy that for once a monster that as i RP my Geralt is less of a monster than some human specimins i have had to gut. If there was a way to resolve a problem with a sheathed sword i always like to take that route and this encounter with Mrs. and Mr. troll was entertaining and delightful diversion from hours spent gutting and cutting everything. I definately would like to see more of these type of encounters because they do allow the player a choice and add even if it is inconsequential to the outcome of events, a bit of personality to an otherwise static Geralt. Compassion, empathy, tolerance are all valid witcher traits just as much so as is shoot first second third and until everything is dead.

Sooo... You actually let everything hit you once before you attack them? Has there ever been a time where they haven't attacked you after you entered combat? lol... seems like a waste of time.
Within limits, sure certain things one just knows they are going to atack you, but sometimes one has to take the risk to find the hidden little gems like the Mr and Mrs troll. I thought that was pretty adorable, an old married troll couple, harmless if left alone. If one shoves the demon of human arrogance back down in its respective box and slams the lid closed both worlds would be a better place. Had i ran up and started slashing like a maniac instead of taking a chance to see just what is up i would have missed out on a pretty cool dialog exchange. If it leaves me alone i leave it be, attack me and well you will get dead and i will root around in your innards.

I do something similar in FONV where i take the friends of animals perk alot, as there is plenty of bipedal assholes roaming the desert looking to put a bullet in you. Nothing is more hilarious than to be getting shot at by some Legionaire in his pretty red dress with feathers in his hair and watch as that herd of big horners he ignored runs him down. Bannana yucca fruit for everyone, and a nice little scratch behind the horns before i move on.
