Witcher 2 jumped up to number 3 on the Steam Top sellers, where as Fable 3 dropped to number 8.

Good job CDP. Glad to see that this game is doing well.

Fable 3 is ever so late to this battle. I would have bought it ages ago if they would have let it out when they let out the 360 version but at this point, don't care.

It was a bold move to release this Fable 3 at the same time as The Witcher. I would have thought because of the economy they would have either released it 1 month earlier or 1 month later to not compete with The Witcher 2. Seems like there was a whole lot more buzz going around about The Witcher 2 more then Fable 3. Honestly, I didn't even know that Fable 3 was coming to the PC till shortly before its release.

I knew it was coming (saw a article in a gaming mag) but same article talked about the fart jokes and stupidity (they called humor) and I knew it wasnt for me so havent paid attention to it since!

I think Fable3 and Witcher 2 vastly different gamers so dont think there is a whole ton of overlap!

I think the gamers attracted to TW2 would be the same crowd attracted to ME1 (not 2) and DA:O or Fall Out 3. So would have been a head scratcher if one of those ttles were released at same time! Fable 3, not so much.

Anyways, glad to see CDR doing good sales wise. Thats about only thing that could have stopped a part 3.

Now they do their console launch and hate to admit it but im kinda hoping they crash and burn on the consoles. Not cause I wish CDR negative feelings but id be THRILLED if they went back to developing for PCs only.

The development with consoles in mind, in TW2, are pretty appearent for any that played it.

I dont hate consoles, I have a 360 myself, but I miss PC games made for PC owners and forget about the 13-25 age group thats drives the console franchises.
The best thing would be if they sold like 4 million on PCs, of that plenty on GOG (so that they would get huge profit margin) and then sell like 300 000 on consoles, with little profit margin..

They would still have huge amount of money to continue making games, but it would hopefully convince them that PC only is the way to go.

One can dream : - ).
Can we have really numbers how many it was sold on world wide?

Exactly Paul!
Exactly!

That happens and you already know Part 3 will be 100% created with PC users in mind and only PC users!

Consoles already have Bioware dumbing down to pacify their game titles for consoles.

Some traditional PC RPG devs need to survive and stay true.

OR If they could upgrade consoles to pc quality add a keyboard mouse option OR make TW2 playable on the Wii2 aka Wii Wii Then Devs might accomodate us
the only thing about TW2 i feel that was really hurt by taking the consoles in mind was the size of the world. i might definitly be wrong, since this was the same structure of TW1 but to me if this game was an open world than i'd love it 10 times more. i cant see a reason why i cant go back to foltsum after leaving it or any sort of backtracking.
i can never know if this was the case but i will always feel like the engine could have been built to support streaming of larger terrain if it was planned to do so from the beginning.

but if to be more on topic - i dont see ANY way that this game will sell less on consoles, after it is received so well practically everywhere (destructoid aside). i bet CDPR will need to reinvigurate the PR of the game closer to the consoles launch but i assume they will make enough money to do so. i wish them the best of luck.
they are an amazing bunch and just hope the franchise wont suffer for it (looking at you, crytek. you are a bunch of talented mothers as well, but now we , PC gamers, suffer for it a bit).

Gameplay and commands (and even the Kayran boss) were totally designed for console play right down to the 4 button (which happen to be left, top, bottom, right design of a 360/ps3 controller) gameplay for fistfighting. Along with hot button scroll for signs and range/trap/bombs. Along with right trigger strong, left trigger fast, along with ...

Well you get idea :)

The area not console design.
Thats more standard design Bioware been using forever and CDR is heavily influenced by Bioware products.
As you said, first Witcher was like that as well.

Pewrsonally I dont mind the area design. But Im not a fan of Betasoft games like Morrowind, Oblivion, Fall Out 3. Seems to me you give up story to have the open world and Id much rather have story. Personally speaking.

In the end Ill play TW2 a number of times because of story
I barely finished FO3 and never reloaded it after.
I didnt finish Elder Scrolls or Oblivion, just lost interest with the lack of direction.

Naaaa, the console comment was about the gameplay design and 1st boss encounter (that was total and complete Console style encounter).

What id like is not mor eopen world persay, but definately The Witcher 2 could of had 1 or 2 more COMPLETE CHAPTERS.

I wont go into specifics as spoilers but I did feel after the Meeting in chapter 3, everything just felt rushed to finish and same events could have been spread out over 1 or 2 more chapters for full effect.
Very happy for this game. Not only is the game great, but the Customer Support was fantastic as well. (Greetings from jiyo)
@ Kalfear -

yeah, i know that they made chosing signs and fist fights to fit a controller but these decisions did not hurt the game in any way, IMO.
i can chose signs with a key press but even still, im using the control button and mouse to pick the one i want.
a fist fights? i dont bother with them so much.

there is a lot of things taken from the current console generation and implemented in this game and this is why it differs from the withcer 1, but i think that 95% of these things are GOOD! taking the combat to a more AC\batman:AA feel is the best thing this game has and the other great improvements (graphics and choice of story unfolding) were not harmed by the catering for consoles.

and even if this game wouldnt come out for consoles i think that creating it to play well with a controller is a good move. a lot of ppl play the game like this and i play it , most of the time, with my 360 controller on my TV. im greatful to have the option.

regarding focused story or open world - yes, it is definitly much easier to get lost in the story in more open ended world BUT it's a matter of choice. if u r all about the story than u could play OB or FO3 and just follow the story. it wont be AS focused as TW2 but still. besides im doing every side quest i can with TW2 and i dont feel like it's THAT focused on srory because I chose for it to not be. and i feel like that ppl who love side quests and tons of things to do in a single game appreciate games like oblivion.

i agree that open world games tend to have a lesser story so if you enjoy a story first and foremost than TW2 is definitly more for you than oblivion, but i like immersion and feeling a part of a world and games that constantly telling me "you cant go here, you cant do this" are games that are telling me "there is no world beyond this barrier" and "theres nothing else to do in this place" and i hate being reminded how limited the game is.
TW2 does a marvelous job at giving u a lot to do in it's playground, but it also constantly reminding you that there are just fractions of created land. there isnt a world beyond that small barrier that for some reason u cant climb.
with open ended games u get some many stuff happen to u randomly and organically and the what happens on the way to your objectives can be an adventure on it's own and THAT's what i like about these games.
TW2 is about the story. games like Oblivion and Fo3 are about the journey, and i love me a good journey.

while i havent finished TW2 yet (im half way through) i also read a lot about how the ending feels rushed. it's a shame. but the great thing about TW2 is that if u play it a second time u can have different missions to explore so theres a reason to play it again.
Fable 3 for the PC? They cut there on throat when they didn't release Fable 2 for the PC. I played Fable: The Lost Chapters on the PC and was surprised when 2 was only ported to the Xbox. To know whay it didn't go to the PC as well. Stupid Microsoft. I probably won't bother with 3. Got a bnch of stuff coming this year such as Uncharted 3 and TES V : Skyrim plus others.
I think there have been numerous studies that show gamers are actually of an average age closer to late 20s, early 30s, so I have no idea why they keep marketing to 15 year olds.

That's probably why I am not a millionaire though. My grasp on markets are obviously lacking.

Btw, Fable 3 is the only "rpg" (and I use this term in the loosest sense possible) in the last couple years that could possibly make me say "oh, there's this game that was even more streamlined and rushed than DA 2".

Awesome, they deserve it...I bet they've sold a lot more TW1 units as well recently
