Hi everyone,

I went to install the expansion packs for Witcher 3 last night and when I clicked on the executables, they both came back with an error message saying: (paraphrasing) "Base game not found."

I did a bit of google-fu and found that editing the "path" section on the registry should fix this and that makes sense as I moved my installation from my mechanical disk to my SSD. (It's non-Galaxy GOG installation).

After many searches of the registry for Witcher3, CDPR and any variation you care to think of, there are no Witcher 3 entries found in my registry.

I move the installation back to my HDD, thinking that if I can't change the registry setting, I will move the game files back to where they were, so it should be "right."

Nope, still saying there's no base game found.

Windows 10, Witcher 3 version 1.12.

I had the same issue as my other OS had a fatal error since the game was originally installed. It was still on the secondary drive, and I still had old save directory, but it had no registry file.

Google Witcher 3 registry file. There's a site that has the info listed in a notepad format. I copied and pasted the text directly and made my own .reg file. There are places that that have a "download", don't bother with those.

Anyhow, I found a video on you tube that showed what needs changing. I altered the .reg file to look at my partioned drive, got game running, then shut off. Went to the save location it just created, and pasted my old save directory folder over it, then altered the .reg file again to look there.

So google a registry file, copy and paste the text into notepad, "save as" file.reg (or whatever name works), watch you tube vid to see what needs changed, then save the file and close it. As long as it has the .reg ext. clicking it will automatically update the registry. Then try game.

Once game and saves are able to be accessed, you'll be able to update latest patches and install DLC.

I bit the bullet and deleted everything (backing up my saves first!) and reinstalled all without a hitch. Thanks to those who helped.
