I have the same problem. He walks right through Yrden as if it wasn't there. Very frustrating. There are enough other quests to enjoy that I think I'll just skip this one and move on.

Same happened to me with Jenny of the Woods. In that battle I lucked out once and killed her anyway. No idea how it happened.
