...without spoiling anything, I can say I was utterly impressed that W3 continues and picks up story threads from the books. Where as W2 just "borrowed the universe" but was mostly totally unrelated to the history, W3 is not only the final game, but also the final book...

It's a bit like Tolkien coming back to direct a movie about a fourth LOTR novel that was never printed. I like this mix of media a lot...
Eh. Eeeeh. Personally, I would prefer they left story from the books alone. Sapkowski was quite clear on not wanting to pick up on the ending, so the story is not canon anyway - which was fine when CD Project was sort of doing their own thing, but it feels a bit weird when they're taking a ton of characters from books which are suddenly sort of different in the game (albeit they mostly captured Sapkowski's style quite well)
Oh, seems I was mistaken - I thought he was involved in the writing for W3 and the character and political development followed from the book were his idea...
