I purchased the retail copy of TW3 today at lunch. The install completed about 10 min. ago. Yay! Out of the box the game is intentional broken (I understand why but it is still broken)! So I need a patch. Patches are kept behind a "Proof of Purchase" wall here at gog.com. Fine. Whatever.

I log in at gog.com and redeem my code without incident. The game appears in my library (and the peasants rejoice). I select view downloads. I have a choice. Take the game back because it is broke or download more than 22.5 GB. The game is already installed. I don't need to download the game. I need the 1.02 patch so I can apply the 1.02 -> 1.08.4 patch. My only options are to download the game (version 1.06) or download the 1.02 -> 1.08.4 patch.

If I started downloading the game right now and do not have any issues; I'd finish the file transfer some time next year (I've don't have great or even decent internet access but it works for email and complaining on message boards).

Complaining and griping aside; where can I download the 1.02 patch?

NM. I started the download of the patch:

"PATCH 1.08.4(PART 1 OF 2) 1.02+ -> 1.08.4 1 MB"

and noticed something. The file name is: "patch_witcher3_1.01-1.08.4_2.0.0.39.exe". Some time next week (the second part is 2 GB) I'll find out if the file(s) are miss named or the information on the page is incorrect ("1.02+").

Patch 1.02 should be downloaded by the game automaticly (about 200-300 MB). If nothings happens reinstall it.
All Witcher 3 patches are splitted in 2 parts. You need both of them (1 exe-file and 1 bin-file). Download them and install the patch by double clicking the exe-file later.

That's nice. I've seen that plenty over the last few hours. I especially enjoy the helpful and descriptive part of that support page:

The problem is two fold. First, My internet access consists of a linux box using my phones 3gs and my gaming pc having no network connection. Downloading the update via galaxy is not feasible. Lastly, If my win box was connected to a network; I still don't want to participate in the galaxy platform.

I'm playing by the rules. I went to the store and purchased the game (little reward for getting an 'A' on calculus exam - patting self on the back) .I entered my gog.com game code here at gog.com. The game is in my library. Why isn't the patch required to play the game listed with the full game download, 1.08 patch, or the extras (most of which I also already have)?

Side note: While at college this afternoon, I was able to download the 1.02+ to 1.08 patch (got to love that t1 line). But I still need the 1.02 patch. Oh well.

That only affects the physical copies of the game, that were in the market before the launch date.

It doesn't apply to you at all, you don't need to download anything to play.

I have a physical copy. According to:

Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Program and Features

I have The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt version 1.0.0.0 installed. When I double click on the desktop icon galaxy is launched and 'play' is disabled. Double clicking on 'G:\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64\witcher3.exe' does nothing except exercise my pointer finger. From the printed manual page 2:

"6. The game will automatically download the release day patch.
7. Once the patch is installed, you can play the game."


Despite having just purchased a physical copy; I have a pre-launch version and need the launch day patch.

In order for the game to download the file automatically you would have to use GoG Galaxy or Steam.

You probably got one of the pre-release copies that was still in the store.

I don't think there even is another version so far.

The newer versions should be pre-patched, according to CDPR. This was only to prevent leaked files pre-release. If you need the 1.02 patch you can try a torrent site, or I can possibly get you my copy, it's a small patch. I have every patch for this game that GoG has released.
