deathknight1728: They are all a bunch of scum bags if you ask me.
Way to get inappropriately personal.

Sure, BG:EE is bug-ridden beyond what would be expected. It has a lot of issues, and there is no excuse for these. Multiplayer is broken, there are game-breaking bugs, unsolvable questlines, the UI is a mess, and parts that were there in the original game are missing from the remake.

Overhaul need to get their shit together and work on this game. A lot. Otherwise it's a sinking ship. Whether or not they will solve all of these issues I don't know, but I hope they will.

We still shouldn't attack the developers, though. I have been following this project from its announcement, and I am positive that everyone who worked on it genuinely wanted to create a good game. There have been mistakes, and there is a lot of work to be done to make this work, that much is obvious.

And if you want your money back, contact Beamdog about it. They have been refunding players who couldn't get the game to work on their computers.

You've really got to understand some of this though. I came to them with the idea that they were finished. If they bailed and said a week before its out, they need to delay-I would say Im glad you did that. You did the right thing. I just dont think they are doing a good job. And for what its worth, I have every right to think that about them. I paid money for a service that they didnt provide. No one should stick up for them regarding this.

Like I said, they should have delayed the game. I would not have been angry waiting another couple months. Thats fine.

I'm not sticking up for them either, but I think personal attacks are way out of the bounds of what is acceptable criticism, and they only serve to dilute your point. The same things that annoy you also annoy me greatly. I find it ironic that they delayed the game 4 days before the first release date saying it needed polish and then two and a half month later they delivered a mess. For my own sake I hope they will fix the game, because I still want to play it and not worry about bugs. I also want them to learn from their mistakes and do a much better job with BG2.
Thats fair enough I guess. I was very dedicated the 1st week, but slowly lost hope sooner rather than later. There's still almost no point in me asking them for a refund. Not at this point.

Yeah I see why you're frustrated. Plenty of people still report that the game still doesn't even start for them. I'm one of the lucky ones.
Unfortunately many developers release games in beta stage these days and let the buyers betatest it. It's despicable. This seems closer to alpha state though, which is beyond laughable.

Should rename it "Baldur's Gate: Enbugged Edition".

I suspected this was a moneygrab off a great name, and so far that looks like a highly apt suspicion.
Perhaps it would have been better if they called the the game a beta pre-release. But I've been enjoying playing it myself. Despite some glitches, it still works better for me than either BG1 or BG2.
I definitely think they released it too soon, but some of these complaints are ridiculous. It installed no problem at all for most people. The UI is not a mess, it's great. Much better than the tiny UI you end up with on the wide-screen mod. The new material is great from what I have seen so far. And they have been very proactive fixing the bugs.

I agree it should have been more polished, but it is far from the bomb you guys are making it out to be

Well it all comes down to preference. You say the widescreen mod UI is too small and the BG:EE UI is perfect size; I say the widescreen mod UI is too large and the BG:EE UI is gigantic.

And it has other issues too: zoom resets every time you enter an area or load the game, the mouse wheel behaves erratically, it does not work with the journal, the journal can only be traversed using click&drag, but clicking and dragging the journal entries will also edit them, the dialog window in the minimal state is too small and in the middle state is too large, some fonts are unreadable, and so on and so forth. You get the idea.

Edit: Oh I forgot to mention to UI bug that annoys me the most: player characters tend to disregard orders if you click too quickly after selecting them in battle. Basically makes your characters stand around in battle and not do what you've told them. Fun.

peteatoms: Does the iPad come with many system tweaks or are you able to modify any sort of INI file?
Finally got some time to do this, with Phoneview I was able to open up the innards of the app on the ipad, the folder structure is almost identical to the PC release.

I managed to copy a save file from the PC to the iPad and it loaded just fine. It was an early game save though (right out of candlekeep). Things might change with late game saves.

You can copy out the ini, edit it and replace the one in the ipad app too. Unfortunately the current ipad build mirrors the early PC release bug of ignoring the maximum framerate setting in the ini, so you can't speed everyone up to a reasonable 40+ frames.

Whoa, I had no idea it was that similar, very cool. I really like the idea of saved games (and characters exported/imported) is cross-platform. If I were you, I would definitely set up a Dropbox (or other folder sync/cloud app) so that you can switch back and forth between platforms and play the same campaign.

It is too bad about the game not having the latest patches, you would think if they are so similar that it would be a piece of cake (though I admit I have no clue about programming and whatnot).

Well it probably depends on what resolution you are running at with the widescreen mod.
The zoom thing does annoy me. I'm shocked that this didn't come up at some point in their development as its so basic. I haven't noticed my mouse wheel behaving erratically, maybe it's an issue with specific brands.

I haven't experienced the fonts being too large or small or unreadable. I agree the minimal state of the dialogue window is too small though. (I usually play with it at medium)

One thing that might be a difference. I still have old 4:3 monitors, not widescreen (except on my laptop I occasionally play on). As such, having the dialogue window at medium doesn't seem to take up too much space on the screen, so I generally keep it there.

Haven't really seen that.

Only issues I really have had have been 1) the cut scenes video is a litle bit jerky and 2) I ran into some mustard jelly's when I exited the mines and the game play seemed to stutter a bit. Could have been something else going on with my PC though.

Overall, I'm pleased. I'm really enjoying playing the game again.

ncarty97: [snip]
Just to clarify, when I said "mouse wheel behaving erratically" I wasn't describing the problem accurately. A more accurate description is: "UI elements that you cannot scroll using the mouse wheel even though you should be able to".

I have encountered 16 bugs in the game and reported most of them in the official forums (some have already been reported by others). And I mean actual bugs, not small nitpicks like in my UI rant above. One of these is actually game breaking, some of the others just break quests, the rest are minor. So far only two of the bugs I've found have been fixed. And I've only played single player - a lot of people playing multiplayer report that it's downright unplayable, and MP was supposed to be one of the strong features of this release. Some people are even less lucky and the game won't even start for them even though they meet the system requirements.

For me the issue is that this is a re-release called the Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, and it was supposed to be a more stable, modernized version of the original game. It was supposed to have less bugs than the original game, and yet it has more. A lot more. And don't even get me started on the removed cutscenes. So far my impression of this game is that it would have been more accurately named BG:Redux. I'm waiting for them to patch it up to BG:EE.

An other patch came out since your post. Did the patch fix some of the bugs you have encountered?

An obvious question rises from all of this: why the hell was there no public beta?
