In space, no one can hear you hide.

Objects in Space is now available In Development, DRM-free on GOG.com.
An open world of endless, time-based possibilities. Most of them dangerous. Engaging in combat is rarely wise but you can stealthily fly past them, outrun them or -if push comes to shove- outgun them. There are dozens of NPCs to meet and trade with, employees to hire, and routes to explore with your fully customizable ship. What kind of star-farer do you imagine yourself to be?

While this game does look and sound great, I must warn you that one of their first game known as Metrocide went out in stores in a state no one should call "finished", unless you're talking about a prototype.
Little to no updates has been pushed on Metrocide since its release, and as a result, it's full of bugs, over repetitive and not balanced at all. As if it had not been playtested. Or even played.

So even if they seem to get the atmosphere very right -because Metrocide had a very cool one despite its working state- beware of the actual machinery behind which, seems to not be very well built or maintained.

I am watching you from space.
So is anyone playing this yet?

Looks pretty cool and like something I could get on board with. Very atmospheric (in the "turn off all the lights and pretend I'm actually on my spaceship 10 year old me dream" kind of way ;) ).

But curious if it's actually... fun. Would love a few early impressions about how well it plays and on the funfactor of it. Just an FYI, I could never quite get into sub sims. I did dig a bit of Harpoon and Fleet Commander. I LOVE Privateer and upgrading ship systems in an RPG like fashion is exactly the kind of thing I enjoy. But is the actual moving about the galaxy doing stuff entertaining?

I'm curious, as well. Does the "don't be seen" mechanic add tension and excitement, or does it make travel a slog? Will need to give it a week or so and check some Let's Play videos.

After playing it for a few hours, with my current experience... it's alright. It's at the very least a bit of a slow starter; making enough money to buy the key system necessary to adventure out into the wilds is tedious and long. There's a lot of repetitive tasks (including atmospheric but ultimately meaningless stuff like opening manually two sealed doors every time you dock, or asking permission to undock at the station).

Funny stuff: I got interested into it because I had mentioned I would have liked to make a game about fighting in space over great distances and by tracking the enemy through emissions (as that seems to me a more realistic prospect for real-life space war than dogfighting), and someone pointed me to this. But as I try it I find it a bit lacking in what I hoped for the most, aka the actual navigation aspect, which is all in 2D and mostly with the autopilot. The customisation of modules could make up for it but that too honestly seems basic to me. There's also lack of some key quality of life features that I hope will be added (like how it's hard to keep track of all the parts you need for a module without going back to open it up and check).
When will the newest version come to GOG? It fixes several crashes.

GOG is behind with patches again. I hope they won't skip patches like they sometimes do with other games.

Oof. Thanks for the warning. I had no knowledge of Metrocide and its associated problems. I really hate when a dev releases an unfinished product and then pretty much abandons it. Still, I'll keep my eye on this, and hope it gets finished. I damn near bought it today, so thanks again. I nearly let my enthusiasm get the better of my wallet. No money from me until this one is done.

Note to devs: Don't abandon your games. Word of mouth travels fast, and people really don't like flushing their money down the toilet.
In this case I can understand it, being only two devs, one of which is the programmer. It's alright for me that they left Metrocide unfinished (cause if it didn't sell well, they couldn't afford working on it for too long and had to abandon it for a more promising project, BUT they should release the Source Code if they haven't yet)..

It doesn't look like they are going to abandon this game, and it seems that they are reaching a bigger audience this time.

Judging only from what i read the last days it seems to be a mistake to buy the game here on GOG because the Steam Version seems to be updated faster and more frequently.

Right now, i am seeing the developers uploading a bunch of beta versions on our pipeline so I assume any patches that may be missing are currently being tested.

Thanks for the reply. :)
I really like the idea of the game. I`ll wait and see for now.

As for Flat Earthers, that`s what happens when you allow stupid people too much access to the internet.

I see on their site that Linux support is "coming soon". Wishlisting until then.
