The only thing I'm really concerned over is the fact Microsoft seemed to walk up to them and offer them a crap ton of money. Since they are so insanely rich. What really stops them from doing it to anyone else?

Gaming companies being under mega corps isn't good for anyone.

It's also amazing there was no leaks of this happening. I saw a meme on reddit and thought someone was just trolling. I guess this is why we have heard nothing of any new games coming out.

Mega Crops know how to brand. Usually they play with brands purely. Bethesda/Zenimax was strategic at best. Maybe did some tactical stuff on the side.

There were leaks. Xbox news sites were talking about a leak 6 months ago that stated MS were looking to possibly buy Zenimax. So the time frame is right as these deals don;t resolve overnight. There was even a ballpark figure being touted that was quite close in the end. The other possible company in the leak was Warn a Brutha's gaming division which was being touted at 3.5 Billion. The WB deal however would not come with the licenses for Batman or Middle Earth...just three studios. So it looks like MS went with Zenimax. Don't be surprised if Sony moves in on WB now instead, though not sure they are prepared to spend the dosh.

Nothing really. There are supposedly laws that maintain competition and prevent corporations from buying too many competitors, but if Disney can buy Fox when there's only a handful of big movie studios out there, I wouldn't expect that to amount to a hill of beans. Maybe if Microsoft tried to buy Sony or something, but that's a Japanese company so I don't even know how that works really.

Of course in theory the consumer has all the power in a capitalist society. They could say "no more of these shenanigans, I'm not supporting Microsoft anymore!" Enough of them do that, things change. Good luck waiting on that to happen though. ;)
One thing I dont get why Bethesda pulled their games from NVidia, is NVdia enemy of Microsoft/Bethesda? So NVidia is gonna go with Sony or Stadia.

I thought this a bit, Im quite excited, we all know game industry is big enough to work at "brand" level. Most gaming companies play at strategic lvl imho, well at least big ones.

McMicroDonalds: How is this Karma? Do you think it's good that games like prey and Dishonored might get removed from GOG? Prey 2016 by Arkane is awesome I don't want to see it go away.
So what you like broken games with broken engines that stuff up halfway through playing do you?

Prey 2016 is not that awesome it is basically system shock 2.5, Dishonoured was so so would have been great if it wasn't for the save system corrupting saves

One of the worst practices of MS: sloshing aroung their weight (money and the advantage of controlling the Windows platform) to buy out or smash their competitors, with superior products (some will remember Netscape, Wordperfect, Lotus 1-2-3...). The consumer is rendered powerless when the market has been manipulated into not providing viable options.

That said, there are other shady practices, like selling user data to third parties. MS is the usual suspect, but at least they make a serviceable enough platform with every other version of their OS (with all its shortcomings and whatnot), and try to make a dime (well, millions :D ) out of people actually buying or software (or, as is being discussed, subscribing to services), not from slotting-machine-like addiction or selling every single position of your mouse cursor as it passes over this or that item on their website (even without clicking)

Caranthir1976: Why do some people think, there will be no more Bethesda Games on GOG. Obsidian is also part of MS and we still have this games.
I believe they might sell Bethesda's games/assets and start building new games, under MS-brand that is. Thats one explanation why they wanted to buy it all at once. Ubisoft's shift torwards Tencent has been happening for years already.

CMOT70: So if you troll and it ends up being a true prediction of the future, is it still classified as trolling?
Sure. It's a foretrolling.
I think this will be very good for id and Arkane, dunno about Bethesda's inhouse studio, I don't care about them after what they have done to Fallout anyway so :D
That reminds me, perhaps we should petition MS to kill off FO76 like it was a wounded animal and burn it.

It literally is a wounded animal that's been grossly animated for the sick amusement of others :D

I don't like when online-only games get pulled. Before pulling the plug - they should always be re-worked to work offline with bots; and/or support LAN and players to run their own ded-servers for necessary team-based missions.

I'd rather them re-work the game to work to have at least an offline mode, if they're going to abandon it.

Anybody who bought the game - and that's probably for the 5 people that might like it - shouldn't be stuck with a forced coaster of a disc...or useless game-files.

While I'm at it, any company holding Tabula Rasa IP (would that be NCSoft?) want to re-work it into an offline mode...?

Their recent updates have a lot of people praising the game, believe it or not. I have zero interest because I dislike online play, but it seems to be turning people around ever so slowly.

Still can't believe it. Must be the digital version of the Stochholm-syndrom.
