Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

Breja: Well, good job GOG, this cleared my wishlist better than any sale. I just removed all the afflicted games from my wishlist, went from 60 to 49 in a blink of an eye. A shame about some of those, I was realy looking forward to playing them eventually.

I dropped from 75 to 64.

Yep. I'm a bit peeved that there are a number on that list that I already own, though. If/when they get installer updates/patches I'm stuck with the bloody opt-out bullshit.

And... I've got a few kickstarter games coming down the pipe as well that I wanted to grab on GOG. I'm betting some of them will get the new 'treatment' as well. Bloody hell.

My understanding was that all games will eventually get the same treatment. Am I missing something?

I don't know. They probably will, given how things are going. And then they will all disappear from my wishlist. For now, it's the ones from the list.

I feel your frustration. I will also update my steam wishlist first time in many years. I feel a bit cheated, but over the last few years I was kind of expecting this. The good part is going forward, I will have my games for cheaper, better discount, timely patch and a lot of extra stuff I don't really need :)

There was a time GOG claimed to be the criterion of games. I was more than happy to pay full price for even games I wasn't much interested in... Well, it is a capitalist world we live in

I don't like this descision.

But Even if GOG Galaxy becomes steam? Why would Steam be the better option anyway?

What does Steam have the GOG Galaxy does not?

For one thing, Steam's Top Men at least do their job.

Remember that Steam wanted paid mods to be a thing and they still want it to happen.

Better pricing, timely patches, broadcasting your game, ability to watch your friends playing, achievements, better discounts, better online play...

And they're open about it. They don't advertise themselves as anti-paid-mod brigade, and then introduce them through the back door.

1. Debateable.

2. Also debatable.

3. Personally don't care.

4. ditto

5. ditto

6. GOG had discounts in the 90%!?

7. Have Galaxy been shitty with its online multiplayer games?

Forget about the store discounts, when was the last time you saw a crapton of GOG keys in a bundle?

Stuff: Just my personal view, the first time I see an install Galaxy check box in a downloaded install exe . . that will be the last game I buy from GOG.

I'm actually tired of hearing about the client and I never want it included in setup.exe.

I deleted a galaxy.dll from an install directory a few weeks ago and the game would no longer run. Might not be the case but restoring the file allowed the game to run. I don't have Galaxy installed so why do I have the galaxy.dll? Your mileage may differ. I would use steam if I wanted a client involved with my game purchases.

African_wildlife: Can you tell more? What game are you talking about?
It was Craft The World. Finding the galaxy.dll in the install directory, since I don't use Galaxy, I deleted it. Upon deletion the game failed to start and I got the error message attached. Restoring the file resulted in the game starting as usual again.

I have the game on my XP box for my niece and nephew to play. It is always offline. When I updated to the newest update the game would not start. Uninstalled and reinstalled the previous version and it started normally.

At the time the game card specified the game was working on XP and above but the "Multiplayer" DLC states Win 7, 8, 10 (last time I looked) I can only assume the latest Craft The World update has been changed to accommodate the Galaxy client for the "Multilplayer" DLC and will no longer work on XP? Help desk said they would pass the info on concerning compatibility. I have not checked to see if the game card was updated.

Edit: To double check I renamed the galaxy.dll just now and got the same result. Changing back to the correct name allows the game to run. This is on my 8.1 box.

Done. (The background is Charls from MillionDollarExtreme smiling in a wig, but nevermind that...)

Personally all I really want is for the checkbox to be UNCHECKED BY DEFAULT. *shakes head*

galaxy.dll isn't part of Galaxy - it's part of the game. It's called "galaxy.dll" because it contains code for communicating with Galaxy if you happen to be using it. Deleting .dll files that are part of a game will usually break the game.
