The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 50% off for the first time. Up to 80% off games that you'll find only on GOG.com.

Across the years, we've tracked down and recovered numerous gaming classics - those lost to time but never quite forgotten. We've tested, tweaked, and tested some more to get them up and running on your computers, free of the all-consuming hassle of virtual machines and emulators. We've done our best to deliver bonus goodies: manuals, booklets, and all the little things that gave us a sense of heft and ownership so many years ago.

We are digital archeologists, we are gaming detectives, and this week is all about the games that make GOG.com a unique place to be:

For the first time ever, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt gets a 50%, courtesy of our friends at CD PROJEKT RED. And while we're at it, we're throwing in the rest of the Witcher franchise along for the ride.

Four bundles, the best of those that returned, only on GOG.com:
<span class="bold">D&amp;D: Classic Bundle</span> (up to -80%): featuring the classic editions of Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights - 10 games in total.

mrkgnao: Assuming you meant that you own the first and second on Steam, you are aware that you can have them on GOG too for free:
http://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

Right?

candesco: I already said that they don't require steam, so how can i have them on steam if the copies i have don't use steam.
No, i have the retail versions, on dvd that is. And without any steam activation.
Sorry. I misunderstood. I don't use Steam, but I understand that there are some games on Steam that do not require Steam except for download.

Anyhow, you can use the link I posted to get free copies here also from retail.

Steam games require activation, unless you buy it from steam itself. For example: i have The Dark Eye: Demonicon on disc, but it is protected by steam and so i have to go to my steam profile and confirm the provided code.
With The Witcher and The Witcher 2 i don't need to do that, as they don't have any steam protection and don't require activation. I just can put the dvd into the drive and install it. The first The Witcher does have DRM though; tages.
I will look to that link. There was also a similar thing with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.

KasperHviid: Dungeon Hack from Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Three sounds kind of interesting.

Randomly generated dungeons, a single character to control, and permadeath can be enabled. Sounds quite roguelike to me! It won an award for its replay value.

Anyone tried it?
I believe its great. Keep in mind I played this on a AMD 80386 40MHz powerhouse with a 14" VGA monitor and a SoundBlaster (the original with the IRQ set to 7). Did I mention the huge 40 MB MFM HD (BIOS Slot 40, the ST251-1) and 4 MB of memory? Oh it was awesome! The game, that is, not the hardware.

qwixter: I tried it last night not finally. I did not know what I was doing, and the very first level could not be completed with my fighter/thief. I ran out of food, and after google-ing, I needed a golden mallet to ring a gong. I killed everything, and was running out of food wandering back and forth trying to get a spawn with a golden mallet.

Not really the best first impression. Oh, and the sound was pretty bad for using soundblaster.

Edit: My second run is going much better, but then I picked the much recommended cleric as one of the classes.
Re: the golden mallet. No no, the monsters don't spawn with the items you need. They're in various places on the level you are on. In this case, I bet that the mallet was in a wall recess.

For what it's worth, I used to have trouble making it to level 2, also. One wrong answer, and you fun was over, and you'd be staring at the C:\> prompt. Make sure you have the manual ready for when you descend from level one to two, that's where the copy protection check exists - if GOG didn't remove it. It's as simple as converting a JNE to NOP - or so I've been told. Helps to unpack the games, first. Most are compressed with EXEPACK or something. I used to use LZEXE to compress EXEs. Of course, he recommended unpacking them first. Wow, the LzExe page still exists.
I'll link back to my earlier unanswered question, in case anyone following this thread knows the answer.

I do believe GOG neutered the copy protection in this and most of the other SSI D&D games -- the questions will still show, but in most cases, you can just enter any answer and the game will accept it.

When you start up the gog version, it says to hit enter when it asks. So I guess that gog took it out.

Hmm, I did something similar with Mechwarrior. In the unpacked EXE, replace the code words will null. Of course, be careful not to delete the codes around them.

Didn't work that way with Curse of the Azure Bonds, though. In that case, there was a check against null entries, so I had to use a specific letter like A or Z inbetween the dollar signs.
This is curious.. I got a boxed copy of the witcher 3 from a friend. Had issues with his internet trying to constantly download updates which involves the entire game again rather than patches. Downside is he has a data cap and it costs him to go over the data cap...

Hmmm what to do...
i may consider the gold cox bundle when it is 75% off

For Dungeon Hack, all you need to do is just type in any random letter when it asks you for a word in the manual. I know I made it to level 2 without looking anything up :)

I have an old abandonware version that I had to run manually under doxbox on older versions of Windows (haven't tried on newer versions past XP). Totally addicted to this game. I'm glad there's an "official" release that runs on modern systems now. Honestly, when these archives were first released, that's the first game I looked for. So glad they had the bundle on sale. :)
I want the D&D classic bundle but i dont get paid till monday!

You want to go with Forgotten Realms 1 which is the Eye of the Beholder series. Also you may want to get FR 3 which includes Dungeon Hack which uses the EOB engine.
Hey gog:

I wanted to gift this game to a friend, but b/c you have that stupid restriction on gifting it that was suppose to go away but never did (go figure), I bought it through steam instead.

You left me no choice. I thought this was a temporary thing. I'd rather give you my money, but *shrugs* hands are tied here.

Ooh, kinky...but doesn't that make it hard to type? =P
