rodrolliv: I say nuke the entire forum from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
I'd want this forum + all the game specific forums are archived. One problem I see is making sure people can easily find the archived game specific forums since those have a lot of useful info.

The bigger problem is how intertwined this forum seems to be with the rest of the site; otherwise I feel we'd have a new forum after almost 15 years of this current forum.

timppu: I think there are already now restrictions to access, like not being able to post links until... something.
You need 10 reputation points to post links. 1 post per day = 1 point. 1 post marked as solution to a question thread = 5 points. I believe the same goes if a post is high rated (upvoted by at least 5 users).

I've tried to log in on my phone but it doesn't let me
How do I protect my town from pillage?
1800, 1404 and 2070 are the best Anno games, change my mind
I'm glad my buddy on whatsapp told me about GOG

Which basically blocks all the people who are new to GOG and have a legitimate question how to get started.


A first step would be to remove threads automatically, if the same user posted the same title 3 or more times within 15 minutes. Double posts from a 'normal' user can happen once in a while, triple posts are rather rare.

With a single spam message once in a while I can live, just these 20+ identical message on the front page were a bit much.

Not sure if spambots would then continue posting to existing threads (like they do already), but it would still be better.

amok: Will never happen. gOg is a store, and as a store it is npt a good idea to make restrictions to access. a potential customers should have the ability to ask questions before commiting to the store.

However, generally some restrictions (to e.g. starting to threads) especially to new accounts without any purchases could be implemented, but not completely blocking because many newcomers probably have questions to ask, before making their first purchases.
posting links is not restrictions to access, but extra privileges.

paladin181: The rest of your points are completely valid, but I get the sense that therse guys don't care if you can identify the number per se, since punching that string into a phone should get you to them to steeal your money.
Not if the user mistypes the phone number, and ends up getting someone else instead (who may be confused about what's going on) or an invalid number.

I've never understood one thing: why don't the official forums for CD PROJEKT RED games, which are much more modern, with many more features, and actively monitored, also include the GOG forum, despite the fact that they are accessible with this same GOG account? CD PROJEKT always seems to treat GOG like its dumb cousin.
