The achievements are handled by Galaxy but you can play the game just fine without Galaxy :)

Hmm, that looks new. When I bought this game, the post-purchase screen shows the game on a shelf, rather than just the title as it used to. Nice little enhancements, even if entirely cosmetic. :)
