I have never heard of this game but it looks very good. I might buy it before the sale is over.
I will have to consider this. It took so long that I got it through a bundle for a buck, but having it DRM-free will be nice. :)

gandalfnho: Now regarding other classical MS-DOS FPSs, will love to see Heretic/Hexen and Witchaven.

Anime-BlackWolf: Yeah, the old Capstone Games would be nice, too.

"Witchaven", "Witchaven II - Blood Vengeance", "TekWar", "Operation Body Count".

They are quite trashy, but high class in comparison with today's Steam Greenlight crap.

But Capstone is long liquidated, I don't think there is enough interest for these. I would buy them all... ^^
Actually, Night Dive are working on Witchaven :) - https://twitter.com/nightdivestudio/status/646753827480305666

clarry: Did I say a hold up for steam achievement is acceptable? No. Achievements, whether on steam or otherwise, are stupid. In particular, delaying a game's release due to such nonsense is a terrible idea. Even more so when the game (with the said craphivements) is already released on another store. In this case, it can only hurt GOG as well as anyone who would rather buy from GOG than Steam.

But I have word from a person who's involved; I did not assume anything. There are multiple causes to the delayed GOG release (some of which really make no sense to me). One of the causes is galaxy integration, and waiting for galaxy to get stable enough.
Yes, I heard somewhere that Galaxy integration is also the reason for the Van Helsing: Final Cut delay plus many other games I'm sure. It really is annoying sometimes.

Yah, best not to piss off that huge throng that comes the forums to complain every time a game is released here without Galaxy support. ~_~

And it's not like they could patch it in later...

(To be clear, I'm not blaming the devs. Rather, I suspect GOG is putting on pressure that games support their "optional" platform from Day One.)

Narakir: I absolutely adore this game, but they really took their damn time to release it here.

clarry: The hold up was due to Galaxy integration (read: achievements). Screw that Galaxy bullshit.

GOG's only hurting themselves, what with people openly admitting to purchasing from Steam when they'd waited long enough....

Seriously, who wants to wait a year just to get some stupid galaxy achievements (on the one platform on which Galaxy exists)?
GoG has been doing fine recently, the issue is more on NDS for not pushing it to release quicker. I suppose the price for DRM free is a lot of patience and consumer discipline.

I think you're right.
Got impatient, bought this on Steam like two weeks ago. Played through it and thought it didn't age well.

Oh well. I still give props to the publisher for putting together a proper port, so we don't have to deal with annoying DOS-isms.

Oh, and while we're agitating for early 3D FPS titles, let me say again that I'd like for ZPC to come here.

That seems to have been the case. AIUI, the developers originally did a no-Galaxy build but GOG wanted Galaxy integration and someone with the power to make decisions wanted to comply.
Nice, gog, another classic!

This year is already great, and we're not even half-way through.
I love the low-rated steam remarks.
Classy gog community, classy.

Thanks for the inside info! It makes sense from the viewpoint of GOG, but is unfortunate for those of us who care not a whit for Galaxy gubbins and who just want our games in a timely fashion. And I'm not so sure it makes a lot sense for GOG, if it ends up costing more sales than the platform drives.
Been playing it on Steam, first time actually attempting to beat it since I last dropped off with it halfway through or so in 2010 on GZDoom. So far it's OK, it's not really bad but it's definitely not as good as the other Doom engine games even if it is more advanced. Combat just isn't as fun as Doom or Heretic/Hexen and the maze-like level design gets really annoying very fast. Also completely forgettable music, composer sounds half-awake most of the time. Cool theme and universe though.

E: And surprisingly decent voice acting, though Blackbird adds absolutely nothing to the experience except irritation.

Very tempted, but it's unlikely I'll find the time to play it right now.
