Khadgar42: Well, it means that you Sir (I'm talking to you Mr. tarunmutreja) have been the the victim of dastardly cunning and perfidiously sneaky Public Relation campaign that almost forced you instinctively to join GOG and buy your software there.
Climaxing in the most slyness of all facts that you actual feel guilty of not becoming GOGs customer earlier.
What it means is GOG provides a service that really suits my needs... I could still have carried on using pirated services as nobody was forcing me to buy from them...
Its just that they provide a cheap effective solution to my requirements... As for the guilt... there is no guilt involved its just love for the games that made me buy all the previous games

Of course, there are always cheap bastards who pirate even if they could easily buy everything they want, but well, you can't change them.

Khadgar42: "Yes you can, you can put every single one of them to jail, for years. Or letting them pay millions each for their copyright infringement."
At least that's the opinion of the legislature.

It is interesting to note, however, that in the case mentioned above by our confessor Piracy was an actual form of advertising.
Viral marketing at its best.

What does that mean, you may wonder?

Well played GOG, well played indeed.

In other words, after stealing a Porsche you not only found out where to buy one immediately thanks to specific product placement. No you instantly bought one, and already felt guilty about not buying one 10 years ago.
Best marketing strategy I heard thus far...
A main reason why people who pirate games usually wouldn't even dream of robbing a bag of crisps never mind a Ferrari is because that it's so easy to actually not get caught, I know a few pirates (excluding Captain Jack Sparrow) who pirate yet never actually heard any getting caught.

keeveek: There is this theory about piracy and buying knockoffs. People who pirate games, music and movies or buy knockoffs are very likely to buy them when their financial status rises.

Many of us who pirated games as kids started to buy them as soon as they had some more money.

Of course, there are always cheap bastards who pirate even if they could easily buy everything they want, but well, you can't change them.
totally agree , now thats a true pirates tale
Giving out games to other members... You see Steam this is why I buy a game off GOG before buying off you...

What kind of lesson is steam supposed to take from this? Steam users gift games to each other too

Came close a few times (someone must be buying all the games and uploading to a particular *site* - have huge rash of GOG games on there now and then) but doing the right thing since i love gog and bought my fair share of games here :).
