Also improving a vehicle is different, because technology evolves and a tmodernFocus will consume much less instead of a ten years old Focus. No one want to buy a ten years old machine. It's not an "artistic" product with a value despite of its age like a videogame could be. A ten years old Focus is only a worst product.
You're over-thinking this. My point is far simpler - buy what you want. Don't buy what you don't want. Yes, a 2014 Ford Focus might be a worthy enough upgrade from a 2004 model, just as a 2014 HD remake of a game intended for PC and PS4 might be a worthy upgrade from a 2004 PS2 port. It's up to you.
