Someone who knows more about bitcoin: isn't it easy to change bitcoins to real money, or why do you specifically need the ability to buy games with bitcoin? Are there extra costs or lots of waiting involved when you want to exchange bitcoints to real money?

Maybe I'm more used to seeing bitcoins and such more like shares, an investment. You get bitcoins (with real money) in hopes of seeing its price go up compared to real currencies. Yeah I know, many do that with real currencies as well.

So in that sense to me it seems a bit similar as asking whether you can buy GOG games with Apple shares, or with gold/copper futures. They all have certain monetary value, I guess.

Darvond: Sorry, I don't accept monopoly money. Especially after reading though this fun goldmine.
I read the article and it is piece of BS.
The author, and you by extension, doesn't have a clue about why the proof of work is important. And why it makes bitcoin valuable.
The PoW is important because it guarantees decentralization. No single entity has nor need to have control over it. Thus it doesn't need to be "backed by central authority" to function.
Miners doesn't magically happen to find coins. It is the userbase who agrees to pay them said coins for securing the network. They accept it, seeing value in them, and do the job.

You are so attached to the concept of needing oversight over accounting/exchanging value that you can't even think of possibility that this oversight might be just an unnecessary waste of resources, which doesn't even provide the solution just softens the ill effects to some extent.

For fiat currency to function you need central authority for one reason only. That is to enforce the supply limit. The whole "backed by economy" thing is just a trick to make it over complicated.

Enforcing fiat supply limit is done by banking institutions who take, seeing value in it, fiat salary for the job.
And we trust in their promise of protecting the scarcity of it with honesty.

fishbaits: Not all things associated with bitcoin are dodgy.
Overclockers.co.uk used to allow you to purchase hardware with bitcoins, few firms still do, such as Scan.co.uk.

nightcraw1er.488: Of course not, even the most organised crime in the world has some legal bits. However it is - proved - used by almost all scammers, fraudsters, balck marketeers. Principally that it is very hard to trace making it ideal for these types of things. Its also a financial bubble, lots of people are now investing in it as the price is rocketing, but that wont last. So the question is two fold - what does it provide over and above normal payments: none other than non-traceable, so only for those who are doing something illegal, and is it a secure finance: no, it will collapse at somepoint.
This is your opinion or your personal belief or fear. Not science or facts.

You used word 'proven'. Let me tell you that dollar is -proved- to be used by almost all scammers, fraudsters, black marketeers. So by your logic it must be outright illegal. So, let me ask you why do you want to use dollar for buying games. Are you trying to get rid of them in here?!

For the second part I can argue that dollar is in its financial bubble. I see that it is less and less valuable over time. Is it that badly managed so I can't even buy a candy with couple of cents anymore? Wait a second, those banking institutions were supposed to protect its value! Why it is losing the value then!
Honestly, I think the strongest argument you could use against introducing bitcoins to the website is that not enough people care about it. Argue the morals of it all you want, but no matter what, in the end it's going to come down to supply and demand. If there's a big enough demand, GOG will supply it. If not, they won't bother. Currently, GOG would turn a far bigger profit if they first focused on other local currencies (i.e. China's, which they're currently turning towards) instead.

Edit: And before any of you even TRY the "But look! It has over 1,000 votes on Wishlist!" argument, let me point out that the number it's currently at is fairly puny compared to what it normally takes for them to do anything. Not to mention the fact that a lot of votes doesn't necessarily guarantee they'll implement something given that maybe 10% of the userbase at best actually even bothers to look at the thing.

Facts, as shown recently in quite high profile news:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-39901382

No I wouldn't go so far as to call Wikipedia facts, however they do provide a whole lot of reference:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin

Anyways, you haven't answered the question of why? Is not the multitude of payment options already enough, why do you need this level of anonymity, is this where the funds from the above mentioned news has gone?

You are very right, but in this opinion you only take into account what you want for yourself.
You are clearly happy with fiat payments and you don't see that I might be happy with bitcoin payments.

Where am I anonymous?!
I log on GOG, provide my identity, pay with my Bitcoins (which in fact are traceable). In which part I am or I want to be "anonymous" ?!
It is yet another fear of the new technology you are infected with. Most likely by "high profile news outlets" :)

As for the ransomware attacks. I think that we can all agree that those guys are clever. Way more clever than average person is. Yes their morals are low, but you can't deny them that they are smart. And these smart people wants to use Bitcoins for its convenience of use. That fact alone should give you something to think about. If Bitcoin is good for smart people why it cannot be good for me?

I just don't like that you are trying to put a patch on Bitcoin that it is for illegal activity only. It is not. Way more crime is conducted using fiat money than through Bitcoin.

I also want to put some note on those scary ransomware attacks. It usually hits companies who don't make backups.
Thank to the worm you can identify institutions that are lying to you how they protect customers data while in fact they are neglecting even mere backups. Yeah you can believe that they are honest.

To be precise, most recently in Poland one hospital was sharing personal and medical data with the whole internet without even requiring a password and they see nobody responsible for the fact, blaming hackers. The high profile media outlets confirmed that narrative. Sure if everybody was honest we wouldn't need to care about the security at all. But do you think that IT department of the hospital was honest? Or leadership/management is not doing any crime here?!

The average person is the exact reason choking hazard warnings exist.

I had a question, and that didn't really answer it.

Is paying with zlotys or euros an option to you? Why do you want to pay with bitcoins specifically? Is it time consuming or cumbersome or costly to change a bit of bitcoins to real money, in order to buy GOG games?

I am asking because I have no idea how people change real money to bitcoins and vice versa, how easy is the process. Can you e.g. change some bitcoins to 100€ with a couple of mouse clicks, or what does it take?

Actually, no. Security experts looking into the latest (NHS - Wannacry) attack expressed the opinion that it was a very amateurish attack, probably just script kids running bought software.
Bitcoin is a fad. Its stupid. Its money that comes from nothing. You dont even work for it. How can this even be legal? I hope GOG doesnt touch it.

Article? Laughs. That's an entire goldmine of a thread dedicated to deconstructing what a dumb concept it is!
