GrimTuesday: Happened to me (once) in 1.1, so I doubt its the patch causing it.
avatar
NINJ4R4BBID: Thanks for the heads-up (it was the first & for now the only time it happened for me)!
Wierd this also happens in TW1. I replayed it recently and this happened a few times. Sadly didn't realize there were texture mods until after I finished.

Adam192: 1.2 messed up performance for me - introduced a weird stutter every few seconds.. very noticeable and very annoying - uinstalled, playing 1.0, and the stutter is gone.

i5 760
GTX 470
4GB
Windows 7 & Latest nVidia drivers (275.33)

Funnily enough, both patches have broken things for me - in 1.1 it was the gamepad controls and in 1.2 it was the performance - 1.0 has been the only version I've had no problems with - bugs or otherwise. Oh well, all I'm really missing out on are the new hairstyles and the DLC - no biggie.

Is it possible to install 1.1 without installing 1.2? I have the GOG version and I'm assuming using the patcher will just update it to the latest version. Would be nice to run at least a more recent patch, since I could use Xpadder to get rid of the gamepad issues.
Are you sure its not mod related...?

I'd backup Witcher 1.0 and try repatching it onto the fresh copy and see if it still happens. If it doesn't than just copy the old one back. Your missing out on alot more than just haircuts and DLC... they tweaked and balanced many things and fixed many bugs that could lead to you not being able to complete the game.

JaPan: 16:10 has never worked fine. Everyone has black stripes.
I'm not convinced, I didn't notice them previously but they jumped straight out at me after patch 1.2 and I came on the forums wondering why they were there!
my game performance is fkd from 1.2 patch too. I have no mods, just bought game yesterday and was working fine 1.1 Now I cant even run on lower resolutions with minimum settings. def all patch related. fml im reinstalling and hoping I can just use 1.1 untill 1.3 comes and hopefulyl fixes the game

edit: I reinstalled the game and elected to update only to 1.1 and everything is running smooth again. performance issues isolated to 1.2 patch

I'm pretty sure it's possible. Just reinstall the game, install 1.1 (which can still be downloaded from your my games tab on gog.com, as far as I know) and when prompted by the launcher deny installation of 1.2.
All the people reporting performance issues, have you tried creating a new game?

I would not be surprised if playing an existing game would have some issues.

Ryo7: That's weird. I used to play on full screen @ 1920x1200 without black bars but now that I've patched I do have the black bars...
avatar
CodeThief: I have the same problem! Patch 1.1 was fine at 1440x900 and now I have black bars and everything looks fuzzy :(

Why did 16:10 work fine in 1.1 and then get broken for 1.2?
I have a 16:10 monitor, playing in 1680x1050.
I had too the _bigger_ black bars after patching, then I remembered that patching resets your user.ini. Just go again in the graphic options and set that up to return to the "normal", smaller, black bars.
Patch v1.2 (GOG)

This was downloaded from the Launcher
I found this on the gamespot forum:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/thewitcher2/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-59319082&pid=975399

Basically, the patch auto-downloads, then you may (I guess) have to run it manually from the
Documents\Witcher 2\Downloads folder.

And here's the official page:
http://www.en.thewitcher.com/patch1-2/
think its worth it to reinstall patch 1.2 and start new game just to see if I have performance issues after I reinstalled the whole game and am playing it fine 1.1 now?
The patch fixes a lot of issues post-launch such as the lack of an in-game delete savegame option and that annoying menu pause plus reinstates analogue stick support in the menus but, unfortunately, for me anyway seems to introduce a new bug I've not seen before.

I'm playing through the game a second time having already completed on Normal in about 40 odd hours. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I started a New Game after installing the v1.2 patch and played through the Prologue. I noticed that between the sections of Geralt's recounting of events to Roche that weapon and armour enhancements are lost. I've twice upgraded both swords, which have not changed as they were better than any of the others I've found so far, and the Raven armour but the enhancements end up being lost so none of those things are upgraded at all. I never encountered or noticed this bug in the first play through so it is kind of annoying as I've lost about 10 expensive enhancements.

Anyone else come across this issue from starting a new game after installing this latest patch?

I think I had that with 1.0. Although I wasn't upgrading stuff, I just noticed that stuff dis- and reappeared throughout the prologue and is all added to the inventory once I started chapter one.

I suggest playing until chapter one and reporting back then. It might be intended behaviour (because it's independent memories of Geralt and you can play them in any order).

You may be right although I'd still class it as a bug regardless since the game makes no attempt to prevent you using the enhancements, in fact, it actually explains them in one of the tutorial screens! I played the prologue sections in order so it not only defies logic for the enhancements to disappear between them but it's annoying that I've lost all but one now I'm on Chapter 1.

So, you now are in Chapter 1 and they're still gone? Then I'd agree, it's a bug (but none 1.2 introduced - although that doesn't matter anyway :p ).
reinstalled, repatched a clean install, no error in patch installation of 1.2 unlike last time where i forgot to close launcher and had to try a second time. I think its the initial fail of the install (for instance if u have the launcher open) that is causing issues even after you have successful patched the game. even tho patch installed correctly the first (second) time there was issues with performance, now I installed patch without having first mess up of install and everything seems to be running fine, hope this helps anyone having issues and may have messed up the patch install initially (ie not closing the launcher), and thus breaking the game. if only game would have auto pacthed for me instead of just auto download I would not have wasted the last 4 hrs of my life.

Hmmm... I'll add that to the OP, marked "unconfirmed". Thanks for the input!

If anyone's able to confirm that behaviour, I'd be happy to know about it (PM).
